Fear/Break Loose/

Inspiring and encouraging others to break free from what’s holding them back from a great and fulfilling life

Carry the Torch

“Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,”

Hebrews 12:1

This poem is from my recent book, “Testimonies of a Young Woman” in which I was honoring two great men of God: Bishop Hollis Musgrove (passed January 1) and Elder Frank Howard, Sr. (passed in 2014). I truly believe that God placed each and every one of us on this Earth for a purpose. When someone makes an impact in your life, it’s hard to cope with their death. The best way to honor them is to live out the life God gave you by making an impact in this world. To carry the Torch is not for fame seekers nor money-hungry individuals but for the ones that are willing to sacrifice their time, gifts, resources, and their whole life to empower, build, and reach many souls for Jesus Christ. The baton is in your hand now…..what are you going to do?

CARRY THE TORCH

Sweat dripping from my brow

Heart pounding in my chest

Fear seeping through my skin

I found myself at the starting line

Preparing to run a race

Destined for my life

The gun pops off for me to begin

Baton in my head, I took off

Then doubt….start to call me

Focusing on the obstacles ahead

Testing me to drop out this race

Quickly I stumble and fell on the ground

Tears slowly stream down my face

Can I win this race?

Lifting myself up, deciding to turn back

Then a cloud came and covered me

Looking up, I saw something glorious

The people who came before me

Surrendered their lives to be set apart

Exemplified righteous living until death

Overcame struggles and defeated giants

Stepped into communities and changed lives

God was their confidence not fame nor money

Forgave their offenders and loved everyone

Through hatred, persecution, and hard times

Never gave up but endured until the end

I remember their encouragement

I remember the lessons they taught me

Now it was my turn to win

Regained strength in my limbs

Sprung up off the ground

Determination in my breath

God’s Word burning in my heart

Firmly grip the baton in my hand

Focused on the winning mark

I started to run again

Determined to save a life

Change a community

Impact the lives around me

If I stumble…….Persevere

Tempted to quit…..Move forward

Faced with fear…Laugh

Finish what was started

And win the ultimate prize….

About Me

Hi..My name is ShuCora Walker. No, I am not the woman in the picture, but my words represent people like her. People who love good conversations. People who enjoy sharing their life stories. People who tell the truth to not only inspire but to heal, learn, and grow. I have been writing since my preteen years and found peace in letting my heart bleed out on the paper through my words. The focus of my writing has always been to share stories of triumph, struggles, and faith because God is the reason why I write. I remember at one point that I wanted to take my life, but God deemed it not to be because He still had a purpose for my life. Now, I am using my words to share my life journey so others can learn from it. Yes, one day I plan to open up this platform to other writers so we can continue to learn from different experiences of life. So, this is a space for anyone seeking to live a life of real freedom and enjoy some good moments along the way…
