Today I decided to post my first blog post since January 2019….yes I know it’s been a long time and I have good reason for it….maybe. After self publishing my first book in 2018, I stop putting forth effort in reaching an audience and building up my platform through social media. I stop posting content to my YouTube channel, stop writing my blog posts, and not really pushing my book….why? No one didn’t tell me to stop except this one negative person. I have known this person my entire life and she felt like I couldn’t achieve my dreams because I didn’t have what it takes. She critiqued everything I put up and I decided to quit. Want to know who this person is, (you might have a clue)? That negative person was……..ME. I stopped myself from writing and from moving forward. But today, I wanted to challenge that negativity. Today, August 15, 2020, I decided to not be my own enemy and told myself to pick up that pen again.
The reality is no one can stop you but YOU. I was so worried about what people will think about my content and my book instead of focusing on putting it out there and staying consistent. I believe that we allow……No, we give permission to our insecurities, our past, and our struggles to control our lives. We live in doubt and never stepped outside of the box to pursue the life we were destined to live. Freedom is not left up to the world but up to you….so let’s break free.
This blog is based off of one of my poems in my first book, “Testimonies of A Young Woman.” The title was called “Fear (Break Loose)” and about breaking from the hands of fear, doubt, and insecurity. My previous blog was meant to share short stories but I found myself talking about certain struggles and providing encouragement to others. When 2020 came, I was deciding whether or not to keep this blog until my co-buddy, (co-worker and friend in one way!), suggested doing a blog based off the poem she read. You know what….it made sense! I had some re-direction and feel more comfortable with this one than my previous one. It has hard keeping up with the schedule of posting new short stories each week but it wasn’t hard sharing my thoughts about certain issues I have experienced. So I’m presenting you the person behind the pen and want to walk this journey toward freedom with you. This blog will be a space to be open and real about what we struggle with in life and yes feel free to comment. (Shame has no place here when it comes to our freedom.)
P.S. As a “re-committed” writer, I will have a section of poetry on this blog as well…..just in case you need that extra “pick me up” to get you through your day. See you later peeps!
