I dreamed…….
Graduating high school with the highest honor/ Being the girl with a strong will to lead others/ Friends will be my keepsakes as we make memories/ Planning the wedding of a lifetime like a celebrity/ Having a loving husband by my side raising kids/ Gaining the respect of many as I do big things
But in reality…..
Graduated with a diploma and scars from bullying/ Was the girl with a sad face who barely said anything/ Suspicious of everyone and was not the popular kid/ I married my insecurities and bind myself to my past/ I have no husband but me and my child at home/ Scared to step out on faith to achieve anything
Where is the shooting star that I can make a wish/ Wishing that my life did not turn out like this/ Or maybe be assured that my life is alright like it is
So what does a girl truly need……………Affirmation
Truth be told….I was already validated before my birth
When God laid eyes on me/ He saw beauty and took pleasure in me/ My big, brown eyes, stringy hair, bad choices/ He saw it all and said it was good/ My looks did not scare Him/ My posture did not disturb Him/ My mistakes and fall-outs did not worry Him/ God knew what He made
Even if others do not see it/ Even if I try to despise or overlook it
Because it is enough to know that God Loves and Accept ME
