I heard a liberating statement from a young lady on last month that made me change my perspective on how I see my growth and maturity. In the conversation (paraphrasing), she discussed when people see others doing well, and they make the comment “You must think you are better”, she responds by saying “Yes I am better.” She went on to explain that “You are doing better” when you have changed from who you used to be in relation to bad choices, toxic relationships, and bad habits. I had to think about that. Sometimes we tend to downplay what we have achieved, overcome, or obtain in favor due to our fear of rejection from others. BUT….If I have changed, I CHANGED.
I am not the same person that I was before. I do not think like I use to think. I am not into certain things now like I use to be in the past. I am working towards better for my son and I. My time is focused on my studies and growing my entrepreneurial skills, and not focused on foolishness and gossip. YES, I AM BETTER. That statement acts as a reminder for some of us of how FARRRRRRRRR we have come. We use to be one way, and now we are this way. We use to be the “toxic one”, and now we are the “peaceful one”. Whether it’s in your work life or in your personal life, you need to be proud of your progress. Your progress is a testimony for someone else’s journey.
Do not allow yourself to fall victim to “mediocrity”. I do not celebrate “mediocrity”. I despise “sameness”. Please do not get me started on my disdain for the “familiar” or the lack of change. I am not mad at the person that decides to “Level Up”, but I become uncomfortable around the ones that CHOOSE to “Level Down”. Bettering your life does not make you arrogant or “crazy”, but it’s a sign that you are coming to terms that your ONE life need to be lived by YOU. Good day peeps!
As always feel free to leave your thoughts and share your experience…hey it may encourage someone!
