If you want to know if someone is a great leader, check to see how many leaders they have made from their leadership. If you want to know if someone is a great filmmaker or producer, check to see how many people became great filmmakers and producers from their legacy. It seems like everyone wants to be great but not a lot of people wants to do what great people do, which is to mold, inspire, and create other great people. What’s the point of wanting to be a great writer if I did not turn others into great writers? A legacy can’t live on through one person, but it’s handed down from one generation to the next. I understand the desire to build your own platform/space, but I also understand the importance of looking toward the future and envisioning certain individuals to carry on that vision even further. This is something that I have been thinking about over the last few years, because one of my desires is to build this network of unique writers that are not afraid to challenge the status quo and tell the stories that need to be heard. Here is another truth…..It’s going to take more than me.
Whatever your desire is (and it may not pertain to writing), be sure to know that greatness is found in what you leave behind or rather who you leave behind. Who is following you? Who is learning from you? Who is actually watching you and hoping you succeed so they can break through? Just something to think about…..
As always, do not be afraid to share your thoughts….you are welcome here!
